Northview’s recycling and waste reduction project will include supporting the existing student-driven recycling program with the purchase of new and additional recycling bins and provide education and awareness. Northview was awarded $700.
Evergreen Schools Program
Autrey Mill Nature Preserve (AMNP) is able to fulfill requests for up to one inquiry per month from schools or libraries that are located within the City of Johns Creek for the institution that serves teachers and/or children or students. The free programs include Science Days, STEM night displays, open houses, field trips, and more. AMNP will also incorporate environmental education into other on-demand programs that teach students in Johns Creek including scout badges, home school classes, and preschool programs.
AMNP will also plan and offer one workshop per year for teachers from Johns Creek schools to give guidance about environmental education with students to the teachers for free. Potential topics are Citizen Science Projects, Adopt-a-Stream in Schools, Getting Little Feet Wet, Project Wet, and others. AMNP will also coordinate at least one quarterly environmentally-themed group volunteer day that would allow school groups, corporate volunteer groups, scout groups, or other volunteer organizations to perform volunteer work in the Nature Preserve that further educates the importance of land conservation and the watershed that is affected by the cleanup work performed.
